چکیده
The development of algorithmic fractal dimensions in this century has had many fruitful interactions with geometric measure theory, especially geometry Euclidean spaces. We survey these developments, emphasis on connections computable functions the reals, recent uses proving new theorems classical (non-algorithmic) geometry, and directions for future research.

Effective Fractal Dimension in Algorithmic Information Theory
Hausdorff dimension assigns a dimension value to each subset of an arbitrary metric space. In Euclidean space, this concept coincides with our intuition that smooth curves have dimension 1 and smooth surfaces have dimension 2, but from its introduction in 1918 [23] Hausdorff noted that many sets have noninteger dimension, what he called “fractional dimension”. The development and applications o...
متن کاملGeometric Measure Theory
The aim of these pages is to give a brief, self-contained introduction to that part of Geometric Measure Theory which is more directly related to the Calculus of Variations, namely the theory of currents and its applications to the solution of Plateau problem. (The theory of finite perimeter sets, which is closely related to currents and to the Plateau problem, is treated in the article “Free i...
متن کاملDiscrete methods in geometric measure theory
The thesis addresses problems from the field of geometric measure theory. It turns outthat discrete methods can be used efficiently to solve these problems. Let us summarizethe main results of the thesis. In Chapter 2 we investigate the following question proposed by Tamás Keleti. Howlarge (in terms of Hausdorff dimension) can a compact set A ⊂ R be if it does notcontain some...
متن کاملAlgorithmic, Geometric, and Combinatorial Problems in Computational Music Theory
Computational music theory offers a wide variety of interesting geometric, combinatoric, and algorithmic problems. Some of these problems are illustrated for the special cases of rhythm and melody. In particular, several techniques useful for the teaching, analysis, generation and automated recognition of the rhythmic components of music are reviewed. A new measure of rhythm-evenness is describ...
متن کاملA Basic Introduction of Geometric Measure Theory
Geometric measure theory studies properties of measures, functions and sets. In this note, we provide a basic introduction of geometric measure theory. We will study elementary properties of Hausdorff measures, Lipschitz functions and countably rectifiable sets. To make this note easily accessible, we confine our discussions in Euclidean spaces. Important topics include the area and coarea form...
